Steve James

Artist Profile

His Story

Steve’s career has spanned over four decades and two coasts. From Hampton Roads to the Bay Area, Steve has enjoyed many successes.

In the 80’s, Steve’s band The Bullys was a huge success in Pennsylvania, western Maryland and the surrounding area and opened for many greats such as Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, Ricky Medlocke of Blackfoot and Lynyrd Skynyrd fame, plus Jefferson Starship just to name a few.

The band also had a European following which was featured in many talk shows with air play in several countries. Steve’s next project was The Bystanders which recorded 10 of Steve’s original songs with bass player Dean Nitz and drummer Chris Hodges with supporting vocals from Martha Norman from Martha and The Triple Threat. The Bystanders also recorded two songs for the compilation CD to benefit The Chesapeake Bay Foundation which several other local bands participated in.

After this, Steve moved on to the Bay Area to continue his career. Now a solo act, he played at Jack’s on Fisherman’s Wharf six days a week. He also shared the stage at the Fillmore with greats such as Robyn Hitchcock, The Blue Hawaiians and The Flaming Lips. While there, Steve recorded his album Greyghoste that has 10 more his original compositions.

Currently, Steve is back home in the Hampton Roads area where he is recording a new album with several Hampton Roads greats like bass player Dean Nitz and keyboardist John Wilkins of
Faith Hill fame.

Whether solo or with other band members, Steve delivers a great show with guitar and road-tested vocals. He’s professional, experienced and won’t disappoint.
